Shooting the Sig SSG 3000 Rifle

Shooting the Sig SSG 3000 Rifle

The Sig SSG 3000 is one of Sig’s precision big bore rifles. This one in particular was chambered in .308 with a 24” barrel. Now, I am not a hunter or much of an experienced rifle shooter, but I thought I’d try it out while at Sig Sauer’s media range day at Shot Show.

The rifle is extremely well built, solid, and very stable at about 12 lbs. With just a few seconds of instruction by Sig personnel, I was making head-size hits at 100 yds. The trigger is absolutely smooth and light (3.5 lbs. per Sig specs), and the stock design permits a stable and comfortable hold. I’m not sure of the type of scope installed on this one, but it was perfectly zeroed and allowed me to make shots that I would not normally expect to make.

The recoil was not light enough to allow me to stay on the target at 100 yds., but it was close, allowing me to come back to target very quickly. After a few hits at 100 yds., our friendly Sig instructor challenged me to try a 200 yd. shot…and much to my surprise, I made a solid hit on that one as well!

I was sold. I’ll have to look into these rifles a little more, and maybe you should too!

Did they give an estimated retail price? I understand what MSRP is, but at retail it is a little lower.

MSRP is $1,499 without optics. As shown would come in closer to $4,000

That's probably about right for a retail price...it's that high-end scope that can add another 2k to the price!

On a shooter like this the optic will make the rifle... and while $2k for an optic sounds like a lot, but I think this rifle deserves a quality optic.
